Young India meet Captain Priya Semwal. She Joined the Indian Army at the age of 27 years, after the death of her husband Naik Amit Sharma, of the 14-Rajput regiment, was martyred while taking part in a counter-insurgency operation in Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh.She is the first martyred soldier’s wife to become a commissioned officer.
She was only a first-year undergraduate student when she got married in 2006, she had completed post graduation in Mathematics and a Bachelor’s degree in teaching and employed in a coaching institute, when her husband was martyred. She took SSB exam. After her selection, during the training in Officers Training Academy, she received 12 medals (for endurance, physical training and outdoor training) and two gold medals for cross-country racing. She is currently posted with the Indian Army Corps of Electronic and Mechanical Engineers. she is an inspiration for everyone, especially the youth. Hats off to this lady !!
